Milestone reached in the construction project for the new intensive composting hall | Rosenow / Mecklenburg Lake District
With the successful completion of the shell construction work and the start of mechanical engineering, an important construction phase has been reached in the new construction of the intensive composting hall in Rosenow.
Ostmecklenburgisch-Vorpommersche Abfallbehandlungs- und -entsorgungsgesellschaft mbH (ABG) has been operating the Rosenow waste treatment plant (ABA) since June 1, 2005. ABG is a subsidiary of OVVD GmbH – the Ostmecklenburg-Vorpommersche Verwertungs- und Deponiegesellschaft mbH – which, as the municipal waste disposal company for the districts of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Vorpommern-Greifswald, and Vorpommern-Rügen, is responsible for environmentally friendly waste treatment and recycling in the region.
The background to the operation of the plant is the nationwide ban on the disposal of untreated waste since June 1, 2005. A mechanical-biological waste treatment plant (MBT) was therefore built on the site of the Rosenow landfill in 2004/2005. This plays a central role in the regional recycling economy: it enables the environmentally friendly treatment of residual waste, the recovery of recyclable materials, and a significant reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill.
With the construction of the new intensive rotting hall, the plant is now being further developed technically—an important contribution to greater sustainability in waste management.
In the biological treatment stage, the organic-rich, low-calorific material streams – in particular the processed organic fine fraction from the residual waste – are broken down under controlled conditions. The aim is for the composted material to meet the requirements of the Landfill Ordinance once the biological process is complete.
As part of the expansion, the total throughput of the Rosenow waste treatment plant is to be increased to 245,000 tons per year. This includes an increase in the treatment capacity for biological waste by 30,000 tons per year – to 149,000 tons per year in the future.
ABG invited guests to a topping-out ceremony to mark the progress made on construction.
Numerous guests – including shareholders, supervisory board members, representatives of the construction companies involved, planners, approval authorities, and employees of both companies – attended the ceremony. The traditional speech was given by Mr. Schumacher, site manager of the roofing company Thamm from Stavenhagen. Greetings from the shareholders and the supervisory board rounded off the festive program.
We wish our long-standing enviMV member every success for the upcoming construction phases!
